Cookies from a published Web site are randomly lost after you publish an application that uses forms-based authentication in ISA Server 2004

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

You use Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 to publish a Web site that uses forms-based authentication (cookieAuth) to authenticate client computers. After you do this, ISA Server 2004 randomly removes the Set-Cookie command that the Web server sends to client computers. Therefore, cookies from the published Web site are randomly lost.

Cause

This problem occurs when the ISA Server 2004 Outlook Web Access forms-based authentication filter renews the encryption key. The Web server's cookie is lost when ISA Server 2004 sets the ISA Server 2004 cadata cookie and the sessionid cookie. ISA Server 2004 sets these cookies after ISA Server 2004 renews its encryption key.
