Only the first 80 characters in a long string Extender field are printed in Report Writer


Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You have a long string Extender field that you use in a Microsoft Dynamics GP report. Then, you print the report in Report Writer. In this scenario, only the first 80 characters in the field are printed even though the long string data type supports a maximum of 255 characters.

Cause

This problem occurs because a string calculated field in Report Writer holds a maximum of 80 characters.

Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Create two Extender fields.
  2. In the first field, enter the first 80 characters in the string.
  3. In the second field, enter the remaining characters in the string.
