Description of the Windows CardSpace hotfix rollup package for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003

Microsoft has released a hotfix rollup package for Windows CardSpace, a component of the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0. This hotfix rollup package is for the following platforms:

• Microsoft Windows XP, x86-based versions
• Microsoft Windows Server 2003, x86-based versions
• Microsoft Windows, x64-based versions
• Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Itanium-based versions

List of issues that are fixed in this hotfix rollup package

This hotfix rollup package fixes the following issues that are not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

• When you use Windows CardSpace in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, the Windows CardSpace user interface (UI) does not appear after Windows CardSpace is used several times.
  
  Operating system components do not remove the Windows CardSpace desktop handle. Over time, an increasing number of desktops are created. Eventually, Windows cannot create a new desktop.
• When you use accessibility applications, the Windows CardSpace UI does not appear after it is used several times.
  
  The accessibility component manager (Utilman) holds on to the Windows CardSpace private desktop and never releases the Windows CardSpace desktop handle. Over time, Utilman accumulates desktops until Windows cannot create a new desktop.
• When you use the narrator, the magnifier, or the online screen keyboard on a Windows CardSpace private desktop, the Help Topic command menu is still enabled.
  
  Windows CardSpace runs on a separate desktop to prevent applications from accessing the Windows CardSpace UI. If the narrator, the magnifier, or the online screen keyboard is running on the Windows CardSpace desktop, the Help engine has an extensibility mechanism that gives other components access to the Windows CardSpace desktop.
• In Windows XP, when you click Tasks in Windows CardSpace, and then click View certificate details, the Copy to File button is enabled in the Certificate Viewer dialog box. This button starts the Certificate Viewer Wizard. This behavior may open the File Save As dialog box.
  
  Windows CardSpace runs on a separate desktop to prevent applications from accessing the Windows CardSpace UI. The File Save As dialog box has an extensibility mechanism that gives other components access to the Windows CardSpace desktop.
