Exchange VSS backup fails on an Exchange Server 2003 server

Symptoms

You may experience that an Exchange VSS Snapshot backup fails when you back up the Exchange server. When this issue occurs, you may receive the following error message:

Message      : Unable to create a snapshot.   Error message : ZAPI: An attempt to

135. Error description: No more snapshots available..

Additionally, you see the following error that occurs with the Exchange writer when you run the following command:

Cause

This issue occurs because you exceeded the maximum number of Snapshot copies for each volume.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you can delete a Snapshot copy that lets you continue with your present backup.
