How to uninstall Business Portal 3.0


INTRODUCTION

This article discusses how to uninstall Microsoft Business Solutions - Business Portal from a server that is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) or from a server that is running Microsoft SQL Server.

On a server that is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)

  1. Uninstall Crystal Reports. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
    2. In the Currently installed programs list, click Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Portal-Crystal Reports or Microsoft Dynamics SL Business Portal-Crystal Reports, click Remove, and then click Yes.
  2. Uninstall Business Portal 3.0. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
    2. In the Currently installed programs list, click Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Portal or Microsoft Dynamics SL Business Portal, and then click Change.
    3. Click Remove.

      Note To completely uninstall Business Portal 3.0 and remove all data from the SQL Server databases, select the Remove SQL objects and data check box.
  3. Confirm that the Business Portal 3.0 virtual directory has been deleted. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
    2. Expand the server name, expand Web Sites, expand the Web site on which you installed Business Portal 3.0, and then confirm that the Business Portal 3.0 virtual directory has been deleted.
  4. Delete the physical files. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
    2. Locate the following folder:
      C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\
    3. Right-click the Business Portal folder, and then click Delete.
    4. Locate the following folder:
      C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\
    5. Right-click the Bin folder, and then click Delete.

      Note If you created a new Web site, delete the folder that you created for the new Web site.
  5. Delete the temporary and log files that were created during the initial installation of Business Portal 3.0. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Locate the following folders:
      • C:\Windows\Temp
      • C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\Local Settings\Temp
      Note Replace userprofile with the name of the user who installed Business Portal 3.0.
    2. Sort the files in these folders by Date Modified. Then, delete all the temporary and log files that have the same date as the initial installation of Business Portal 3.0.
  6. Delete the registry subkeys for Business Portal 3.0. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
       
    2. Locate the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
    3. Delete the Business Framework subkey.
    4. Locate the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
    5. Delete the Business Portal subkey.
  7. Delete the COM+ objects for Business Portal 3.0. To do this, follow these steps:
     
    1. Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.
    2. Expand Component Services, expand Computers, expand My Computer, and then expand COM+ Applications.
    3. Right-click all the COM+ objects that start with "Microsoft.BusinessFramework," and then click Delete.
  8. Restart the server that is running IIS.

On a server that is running Microsoft SQL Server

  1. Start Enterprise Manager or SQL Server Management Studio. To do this, use one of the following steps, depending on the version of SQL Server that you are using:
    • If you are using Microsoft SQL Server 2000, click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Enterprise Manager.
    • If you are using Microsoft SQL Server 2005, click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and then click SQL Server Management Studio.
       
  2. Delete the SQL Server login name that was created during the initial installation of Business Portal 3.0. To do this, use one of the following steps, depending on the version of SQL Server that you are using.

    Note By default, the login name is "BusinessPortalUser."
    • If you are using SQL Server 2000, expand Microsoft SQL Servers, expand SQL Server, expand Security, expand Logins, right-click the login name, and then click Delete.
    • If you are using SQL Server 2005, expand Security, expand Logins, right-click the login name, and then click Delete.
  3. Start the query tool for SQL Server. To do this, use one of the following steps, depending on the version of SQL Server that you are using:
    • If you are using SQL Server 2000, click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server, and then click SQL Query Analyzer.
    • If you are using SQL Server 2005, click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and then click SQL Server Management Studio.
  4. Remove the SQL objects for the DYNAMICS or system database.
  5. Remove the SQL objects for the company or application database.
