Table gridlines are not displayed when you use the Automatic Update keyboard shortcut in Word 2007


Symptoms

When you use the Automatic Update keyboard shortcut (CTRL+ALT+U) on a Microsoft Office Word 2007 table, any table styles that were applied are removed as expected. However, the table gridlines are not displayed.

Cause

By default, Word 2007 does not display table gridlines or other text boundaries in documents.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, use one or both of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.

Turn on table gridlines

To display table gridlines in a Word 2007 table, follow these steps:

  1. Select a table in the document.
  2. Under Table Tools, click the Layout tab.
  3. Click Show gridlines in the Table group.

Turn on text boundaries

To display text boundaries in a Word 2007 document, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Under Show document content, select the Show text boundaries check box.
  4. Click OK.
