Cause

This issue occurs when an instance of the public store is running on the Exchange 2000 Server front-end server. In this case, the Outlook Web Access client tries to access the public folder on the Exchange 2000 Server front-end server. This process may generate a memory leak in IIS.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must delete the public folder store before you can successfully delete a public folder tree in Exchange 2000 Server. To do this, follow these steps.

Important Before you delete the public folder store, you must remove or replicate any existing public folders that exist in the public folder store. The contents of any public folders that are replicated to the public store that you want to delete are permanently lost after the public folder is deleted.
  1. Log on to the computer on which Exchange System Manager is installed by using an account that has administrative permissions.
  2. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  3. In Exchange System Manager, expand Administrative Groups, and then expand the administrative group that you want.
  4. Expand Servers, and then expand the name of the server that you want.
  5. Expand the storage group that you want.
  6. Right-click Public Folder Store, and then click Delete.
  7. Restart the Exchange 2000 Server front-end server.
Note Exchange System Manager updates the Active Directory directory service when you delete a public folder store or public folders.
