FIX: A receive location that uses the POP3 adapter may be disabled unexpectedly when you receive a malformed message in BizTalk Server 2006


Symptoms

In Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006, a receive location that uses the POP3 adapter may be disabled unexpectedly when you receive a malformed message.

Additionally, a warning message that resembles the following may be logged in the Application log in Event Viewer:Note ServerURL is the name of the POP3 server.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Workaround

To work around this problem, manually delete the malformed message from the POP3 mailbox.

More Information

Before you apply the hotfix that is described in this article, the POP3 adapter will retry processing the malformed message until the POP3 adapter reaches the error threshold. After the error threshold is reached, the POP3 adapter is disabled. Therefore, valid messages in the mailbox are not processed as expected.

After you install this hotfix, the malformed message is suspended, and the POP3 adapter processes subsequent messages as expected.
