Internet Explorer 6 closes unexpectedly with an unrecoverable error when you run a Web application that uses the InnerHtml property in Windows XP or in Windows Server 2003

You use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 in Microsoft Windows XP or in Microsoft Windows Server 2003. You run a Web application that uses the InnerHtml property in Internet Explorer 6. In this scenario, Internet Explorer 6 closes unexpectedly with an unrecoverable error, and you may receive the following error message: When you view the data that the error report contains, the following error-signature information is displayed.

This problem occurs because the null pointer check is not implemented in the Mshtml.dll file in Internet Explorer 6.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
