Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You open Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 for the first time on a computer.
  • You select one of the following options in the Add New E-mail Account wizard:
    • Microsoft Exchange Server
    • POP3
    • IMAP
    • HTTP
  • The network connection cannot be established. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
An automatic connection cannot be established. Connect to the Internet or network before you click Retry.
However, the Retry button is unavailable.
In this scenario, the Retry button continues to be unavailable after you repair the network connection. Even when you click Back, and then click Next again to try to re-connect to the mail server, the Retry button is still unavailable.

More information

When you try to create a profile for an Exchange Server mailbox, the Active Directory directory service does not perform a lookup for the mailbox when one of the following conditions is true:
  • You manually enter your e-mail address in the Add New E-mail Account wizard. Any manually entered e-mail addresses take priority over the Active Directory lookup.
  • You go past the first screen in the Add New E-mail Account wizard. The Active Directory lookup is called only one time to populate your e-mail address. The Active Directory lookup cannot be called again in the Add New E-mail Account wizard.
