Error message when you try to import a customization into Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0: "The selected customization file does not conform to the required customization file schema"

Symptoms

When you try to import a customization into Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, you may receive the following error message:
The selected customization file does not conform to the required customization file schema. A schema validation error has been detected at line Number_A, position Number_B.
Note In this error message, Number_A and Number_B represent the actual line and position numbers.

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The customization includes an entity form that has a dependent field.
  • The dependent field is required by an external non-event script.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Update Rollup 2, in Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Professional Edition for Service Providers, and in Update Rollup 2 for the Chinese Simplified version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 and for the Japanese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 .

More information

After you install this hotfix, delete the cache in Windows Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Windows Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
  3. Use the appropriate method:
    • In Windows Internet Explorer 7, click Delete in the Browsing history area, click Delete files in the Temporary Internet Files area, and then click Yes.
    • In Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, click Delete Files in the Temporary Internet files area, and then click OK.
