Consider the following scenario. You connect a list in a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Web site to Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. For example, you connect a Calendar list to Outlook 2007. In Outlook 2007, you modify an item in the list. For example, you add a category that is named Red to an event in the Calendar list. Then, you add a new column to the list in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. The new column that you add is a column that can be synchronized to Outlook 2007. For example, you add a new column that is named Categories. Additionally, you specify the type of information that you display in the column as Single line of text. Then, you use the Send/Receive command in Outlook 2007 to update the list. When you view the list in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 by using a Web browser, the column appears in the list. However, the value of the column for items in the list is unexpectedly blank.

This problem occurs if the data that you add to an existing item in the list in Outlook 2007 corresponds to the column that you add to the list in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. In this scenario, the list is not updated in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 even though you use the Send/Receive command in Outlook 2007 to update the list.

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation:
• | When you create a new list in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, make sure that you add the column or columns that you want to the list before you connect the list to Outlook 2007. |
• | For a list in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 that is already connected to Outlook 2007, use Outlook 2007 to modify the items in the list that contain values for the column. Then, use the Send/Receive command in Outlook 2007 to update the list. By modifying the items in Outlook 2007, you force the items to be updated in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. |
