Only the first character in a String field is displayed in an Extender window in Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 and in Microsoft Great Plains 8.0

SYMPTOMS

You enter data in a String field in an Extender window. Then, you save the data. However, when you reopen the window, only the first character in the String field is displayed. This problem occurs in Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 and in Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains 8.0.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true: • The format for the field has a maximum number of characters selected.
• The format for the field does not have a string mask applied.


     

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
1. Click Tools , click Extender , and then click Extender .
2. Click Windows .
3. Click the Extender window that you are using.
4. Click the Short String field, and then click the Format lookup button.

Note A value is already selected in the Max Character box.
5. Click to select the Use Mask check box.
6. In the Mask String field, type uppercase X 's as placeholders to represent the number of characters that you want to be displayed.
