256986 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986/) Description of the Microsoft Windows registry

Symptoms

After you install Sybari Antigen on a public folder server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, public folder content may not be successfully replicated to other public folder servers.

Cause

This problem occurs because Sybari Antigen scans public folder replication messages. By default, the Sybari Antigen Internet scan job scans all Winmail.dat files for viruses. Exchange sends Winmail.dat files to public folder replication servers to make public folder replication easier. If Sybari Antigen modifies one or more of these Winmail.dat files, the public folder replication operation is unsuccessful.

Resolution

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Sybari Software/Antigen For Exchange
3.On the File menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4.Type DoNotScanIPMReplicationMessages, and then press ENTER to name this new registry entry.
5.In the right pane, right-click DoNotScanIPMReplicationMessages, and then click Modify.
6.In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
After you configure this registry entry with a value of 1, the Sybari Antigen Internet scan job no longer scans IPM replication messages. If a virus is replicated by using public folder replication, Sybari Antigen uses its real-time scan functionality to detect this virus.
