Description of the Excel 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package: April 5, 2006

Microsoft has released the Excel 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package for Microsoft Office Excel 2003.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Consider the following scenario. You use the /n switch to start Excel 2003. Excel 2003 starts without a new blank workbook. Then, you run a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macro that loads an .xla add-in. In this scenario, the add-in file is loaded as a template and the number one (1) is appended to the file name of the add-in. If you try to call any macros from the add-in, the add-in will not run. Additionally, you receive the following error message: Run-time error '1004': 'filename.xla' could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.

Service pack information

You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Microsoft Office 2003 with Service Pack 2 installed or Microsoft Office 2003 with Service Pack 1 installed. However, we have tested this hotfix more extensively on Office 2003 with Service Pack 2 than we have on Office 2003 with Service Pack 1. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Service Pack 1, some file conflicts might occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend this configuration.

Restart information

You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix is not replaced by any later hotfix.

Registry information

You do not have to create any registry keys or modify any registry keys to use any hotfixes that this package contains.
