Steps to reproduce the problem
- Create a relationship role. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Settings.
- In the Settings pane, click Settings, click Relationship Roles, and then click New.
- In the Role Name field, type Chief Executive.
- In the Role Availability area, click the Account and the Contact options in the Account Role for line.
- Click the Account and the Contact options in the Contact Role for line.
- Click Save and Close.
- Create an account. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Sales, click Accounts, and then click New.
- In the Account Name field, type Advanced Find Test Account.
- In the Relationship Type list, select Customer.
- Click Save and Close.
- Create a contact that has relationship to the account. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Sales, click Contacts, and then click New.
- In the First Name field, type AdvancedFind.
- In the Last Name field, type TestContact.
- Click Save.
- In the Contact dialog box, click Relationships, and then click New Customer Relationship.
- Click the lookup button that is next to the Party 2 field, click Advanced Find Test Account, and then click OK.
Note The lookup button has a magnifying glass symbol.
- Click the lookup button that is next to the Party 1 field, click AdvancedFind TestContact, and then click OK.
- In the Role 1 list, click Chief Executive.
- In the Customer Relationship dialog box, click Save and Close.
- In the Contact dialog box, click Save and Close.
- Use the Advanced Find function to create a query to locate contacts. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Advanced Find.
- In the Look for list, click Contacts.
- In the Use Saved View list, select Active Contacts, and then click Show Details.
- Point to Select, and then click Customer Relationships (Party 2) in the Select list.
- In the Customer Relationships (Party 2) area, point to Select, and then click Role 2 in the Select list.
- Point to Enter Value, and then click the lookup button that is next to the Enter Value field.
- In the Lookup Records dialog box, click Find, double-click Chief Executive, and then click OK.
- Click Save As.
- In the Query Properties dialog box, type Test Query in the Name field, and then click OK.
- Click Find. The "AdvancedFind TestContact" contact is found.
- Click Back To Query.

In the Role 2 area, point to Select, and then click Party 2(Account) in the Select list.
- In the Party 2(Account) area, point to Select, and then click Relationship Type in the Select list.
- Point to Enter Value, and then click the "assist" button (...) that is next to the Enter Value field.
- In the Select Values dialog box, double-click Customer in the Available Values list. Then click OK.
- Click Save.
- Click Find.
