Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, you create an e-mail account that uses an Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) server. When you start Outlook 2007 after you create the e-mail account, you are prompted to type the user name and the password of your IMAP account in the User Name and Password boxes of the Logon dialog box. However, you notice that the Logon dialog box does not include a box where you can type the domain name.

Cause

This behavior occurs if the following conditions are true when you create the e-mail account:
  • You do not type a password in the Password box.
  • You click to select the Require logon using Secure Password Authentication check box to configure the e-mail account to log on to the server by using Secure Password Authentication (SPA).
When you specify your credentials in the Logon dialog box, you can specify both the domain name and your user name in the User Name box. By design, Outlook 2007 works in this manner.

Resolution

Type the domain name and your user name in the User Name box. Use one of the following formats, where DomainName is the domain name and UserName is your user name:
  • DomainName\UserName
  • UserName@DomainName.com
