Symptoms

You post a new message to a newsgroup public folder in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 organization. When you do this, you receive error messages in the Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 synchronization log that resemble the following error messages:

10:46:57 [8004010F-501-8004010F-560]
10:46:57The client operation failed.

Note To view the Outlook synchronization log, click Go on the toolbar, and then click Folder List. In the Folder List pane, click the Sync Issues folder.

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • Outlook is configured to use Cached Exchange mode.
  • Outlook is configured to download public folder favorites. This option is configured when you click More Settings in the Exchange Server Settings dialog box, click the Advanced tab, and then click to select Download Public Folder Favorites under Cached Exchange Mode Settings.
  • The newsgroup public folder is included in the Favorite Folders area in the Mail pane.
