Symptoms

A very large I/O packet may be lost or corrupted in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Storage Area Network (SAN) environment. In this case, it may take a long time for the I/O time-out to occur and for error recovery processing to start.

Cause

This problem occurs because the current Classpnp time-out algorithm increases the SCSI Request Block (SRB) time-out value by 60 seconds for every 64 KB of data transfer that is requested. The algorithm ignores the 60-second maximum time-out value in the registry.
