Symptoms

When a user or a program tries to access a Web site through a computer that is running ISA Server 2004 Service Pack 2, some of the site's content is unavailable.

When this symptom occurs, the following event is recorded in the event log on the computer that is running ISA Server 2004 SP2:

Event Source: Microsoft ISA Server Web Proxy
Event Category: None
Event ID: 23004
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: Computer_Name
Description: ISA Server was unable to process a response body from /Path. The server supplied a compressed response although ISA Server did not request compression. The response was discarded. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://support.microsoft.com.

Cause

This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The user tries to access a Web site that sends compressed HTTP responses.
  • ISA Server 2004 is configured not to request compressed HTTP responses from servers.
When a compressed response is received in this scenario, ISA Server 2004 denies the response.
