The Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes service stops on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003

Consider the following scenario. A Microsoft Outlook user in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 organization sends an e-mail message to a distribution list. The display name of the distribution list contains DBCS characters. The distribution list includes a Lotus Notes user. But, the distribution list does not have a Lotus Notes proxy address in Active Directory. Then, the Lotus Notes user replies to the e-mail message that was sent by the Outlook user. In this scenario, the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes service stops on the server that is running Exchange Server 2003.

This problem occurs if the heap memory is corrupted.

Note The heap memory is a block of memory that the operating system reserves for a program to store its data.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. File information

The global version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

If a distribution list does not have a Lotus Notes proxy address in Active Directory, the Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes creates a temporary proxy address when you send an e-mail message to this distribution list. This temporary proxy address resembles the following address:When the Lotus Notes user replies to the e-mail message, the Exchange_Server_Name address is not resolved. And, a non-delivery report is generated. At the same time, the heap memory is corrupted.
