FIX: You may receive an �Internal network library� error message when you use the OLE DB Provider for DB2 that is included in Hosting Integration Server 2004

Consider the following scenario:

• You use the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 (DB2OLEDB) to access an IBM DB2 database. DB2OLEDB is included in Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004.
• You enable OLE DB resource pooling as described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  316935 INFO: Using resource pooling with the OLE DB Provider for DB2

In this scenario, if one of connections in the resource pool stops working, DB2OLEDB may continue to use the connection. An error message that resembles the following may be returned to the client application that calls the DB2OLEDB:The error message may continue to occur until the connection times out based on the resource pooling time-out (SPTimeout) value.

Note OLE DB resource pooling is also known as OLE DB session pooling.

This problem occurs because DB2OLEDB in Host Integration Server 2004 does not determine whether a connection in the resource pool is valid before DB2OLEDB tries to use the connection.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
