No sample data exists when you install a new sub-feature in Microsoft Dynamics GP

Symptoms

When you use the Microsoft Dynamics GP installer to install a new sub-feature such as Fixed Assets or Project Accounting, the new sub-feature appears as a menu option in the Fabrikam, Inc. sample company in Microsoft Dynamics GP. However, no sample data exists for the new sub-feature.

Cause

Every time that you add a sub-feature to Microsoft Dynamics GP or remove a sub-feature from Microsoft Dynamics GP, you must select the Re-add sample company data option in the Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities. If you select this option, the change takes effect in the Fabrikam, Inc. sample company.

Resolution

You must re-initialize the Fabrikam, Inc. sample company so that the sample data of the new sub-feature will be loaded. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. At the server that is running Microsoft SQL Server or MSDE, start the Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities.
  2. In the Additional Tasks window, click Re-add sample company data, click Process, click Yes, and then click Finish.
  3. Start Microsoft Dynamics GP, and then log on to Fabrikam, Inc. to view the data in the new sub-feature.
