Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

Hotfix installation information
You must apply the hotfix on the Exchange Server 2003 server that hosts the mailbox. After you apply the hotfix, an event that helps identify the problem message is logged in the Application log. This occurs when diagnostics logging is configured to
Minimum or higher. The event that is logged resembles the following event:

After you identify the message that is causing the problem, you can use one of the following methods to resolve the problem.
Method 1: Forward the message to yourself
To do this, follow these steps:
- If you have Microsoft Word configured as your e-mail editor, forward the message to yourself from Outlook. When Word reformats the message, Word removes unnecessary nested HTML tags.
- Delete the original message.
- Archive the folder that you want.
Method 2: Save the message as an HTML file
To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the message in Outlook.
- On the File menu, click Save as.
- In the Save as type box, click HTML (*htm; *html).
- In the File name box, type an appropriate file name.
- Click Save.
- Delete the original message.
- Archive the folder that you want.
Note If the message has an attachment, save that attachment separately.
Method 3: Use MFCMAPI to save the message in .eml format
To do this, follow these steps:
- Use the Microsoft Foundation Classes MAPI (MFCMAPI.exe) tool to open and to save the message in .eml format.

Prerequisites
You must install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) before you apply the hotfix.

Restart requirement
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply the hotfix. However, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store Service and all dependent services are stopped and then restarted.

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfix.
File information
The global version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the
Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
