Symptoms

Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync synchronization fails when there is a corrupted item in the mailbox. This occurs when the mailbox is on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). If you turn on tracing in the NexTags tool, you may find an error message that resembles the following in the log files:

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the following services will be restarted:
  • The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service
  • The Microsoft Search service
  • The IIS Admin service and all dependent services
