View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

After you create an application to access an Authorization Manager (Azman) store in Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or in Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2), you receive the following error message:
Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles.IAzApplication'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID <GUID> failed with HRESULT: 0x80004002 (No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE))).
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You used the Component Object Model (COM) interface to create the application.
  • The Azman store is created in a Multiple-Thread Apartment (MTA) thread.
  • A Single-Thread Apartment (STA) thread tries to access the Azman store.

Cause

This problem occurs because, when the Azman store is in an MTA thread, the store cannot be accessed by a STA thread.
