When you use Microsoft FRx WebPort Administrator to update an Excel workbook, you cannot view the workbook in Microsoft FRx WebPort

Symptoms

When you use Microsoft FRx WebPort Administrator to update a Microsoft Excel workbook, you cannot view the workbook in Microsoft FRx WebPort. Additionally, a dialog box appears that contains the following messages:
Unknown file type: filename.xls
Do you want to save this file?
In the dialog box, you can click either Save or Cancel.

Workaround

To work around this problem, take one of the following actions:
  • Delete the original Excel workbook, and then publish the workbook again.

    Note After you take this action, your security settings will not be retained.
  • Rename the updated workbook, and then publish it.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Start Microsoft FRx WebPort Administrator.
  2. On the Edit menu, point to Add, and then click Report.
  3. In the Add New Report window, click the ellipsis (...) button at the end of the File Name box.
  4. In the Open dialog box, locate an Excel workbook.
  5. Click the Excel workbook, and then click Open.
  6. In the Add New Report window, click OK.
  7. Start Microsoft FRx WebPort, and then view the Excel workbook. The file will open and display correctly.
  8. Start Microsoft FRx WebPort Administrator.
  9. Update the Excel workbook. To do this, right-click the Excel workbook, point to New, and then click Update Report.
  10. Click the ellipsis (...) button, and then click an updated version of the Excel workbook.
  11. Start FRx WebPort again, and then try to view the updated version of the Excel workbook. You receive the messages that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
