The Actions pane displays "Object" as the title for the list of actions after you cancel a multiple selection in an MMC snap-in in Windows Server 2003 R2

Symptoms

When you select multiple items in a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, and you then click in a blank area to cancel the selection, the Actions pane displays Object as the title for the list of actions that you can perform.

Additionally, the actions area and the description area continue to appear in the Actions pane after you cancel the selection.

Cause

This problem occurs because an item retains the focus when you cancel a selected item, even though the item is no longer selected. In this state, the "Object" string appears and the Actions pane displays Object as the title for the list of actions that you can perform.

When you cancel a selection, the actions area and the description area continue to appear in the Actions pane if the following conditions are true:
The MMC core does not send a deselect notification to the snap-in.
The snap-in does not clear the actions area and the description area.

More information

Three areas are populated in the actions pane, depending on what is selected:
A scope actions area
A selection actions area
A description area
The scope actions area includes view actions. When you cancel a selection in the snap-in, the selection actions area and the description area do not appear in the Actions pane.
