The operating system stops responding when you run Windows Server 2003 SP1 in a VMware environment

When you run Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) in a VMware environment, the operating system stops responding. Or, you may receive a "STOP 0x00000024" error message.

Note You may receive the STOP 0x24 error on a computer that is not running VMware.

This problem occurs when you mount a volume. For example, this problem occurs when you mount a volume snapshot.

This problem occurs because of a race condition between the file system driver and the filter manager.
