When you try to dismount a store, the Information Store service may stop responding in Exchange Server 2003

When you try to dismount a store in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service may stop responding. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

• You are running a custom-built program that uses the Exchange OLE DB provider (ExOLEDB) to access the store.
• The custom-built program tries to modify an event sink registration item on a store at the same time that you try to dismount that store.

Hotfix information

If the conditions that are described in the "Symptoms" section occur after you install this hotfix, you receive an error message in the custom-built program. This error message states that the store is unavailable.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you install the hotfix. However, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store Service and all dependent services will be restarted.

The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time.
