Introduction

Microsoft has released an update for Microsoft Office Excel 2003 and for Microsoft Office Word 2003. This update corrects a potential problem in which an add-in, a smart tag, or a smart document may not load if the add-in, smart tag, or smart document uses the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

Note This fix is not included in Office 2003 Service Pack 2 or in Office 2003 Service Pack 3.

Note for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 developers

This update fixes a problem that may prevent managed add-ins, smart documents, and smart tags that are created by using Visual Studio 2005 from working in Office 2003.

Custom Office 2003 solution does not run after you install Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office 2003
When you try to run a custom Microsoft Office 2003 solution that was created by using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, the solution does not run. This issue may occur because the Microsoft .NET policy that enables the custom solution to run is not loaded after you install Visual Studio Tools for Office 2003.

Known issues that may occur after the update is installed

How to remove the update

After you install the update, you cannot remove it. To revert to a previous installation that does not include the update, remove Office 2003. Then, install Office 2003 again from the original CD or from the original installation location.

How to determine whether the update is installed

The update contains files that have the versions that are listed in the following table.

You do not have to install this update if you have a later version of the files that are listed in the table.

To search for the Otkloadr.dll file, search the hard disk drive. To do this, follow these steps.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, and then click Search.
  2. In the Search Results pane, click All files and folders under Search Companion.
  3. In the All or part of the file name box, type Otkloadr.dll, and then click Search.
  4. In the resulting list of files, right-click the found file, and then click Properties.
  5. On the Version tab, determine the version of the file that is installed on your computer.

Information for administrators about .msp files

The administrative update consists of a full-file Microsoft Windows Installer file (.msp file) that is packaged in a self-extracting executable file. The following .msp file is distributed in this update:

Features for reinstalling specific components for administrators

If you update your administrative installation point and recache and reinstall Office 2003 on client computers, you can run a command line that includes the REINSTALL=[list of features] property. The REINSTALL=[list of features] property specifies whether you want to reinstall specific components of Office 2003 from the administrative image. Optionally, you can substitute the parameter REINSTALL=ALL to reinstall all Microsoft Office components on the client computer.
