You receive a "Missing export Kernel32.dll delayloadfailurehook" error message on a Windows 98-based client computer

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the fax client from a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based fax server on a Microsoft Windows 98-based client computer.
  • On the Windows 98-based client computer, you try to open a program that uses the Mfc42.dll file.
In this scenario, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Missing export Kernel32.dll delayloadfailurehook

Cause

This issue occurs because the Windows Server 2003 SP1 fax client is not compatible with Windows 98. This behavior is by design.

Workaround

To work around this issue, install the fax client from a fax server that is running the original release version of Windows Server 2003. This fax client works on a Windows 98-based system.
