You receive an "HTTP Error 500" error message when you try to log on to Outlook Web Access from a Windows Server 2003-based computer

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You use a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer to log on to a Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) server. When you first contact the OWA server, OWA provides a Web-based user interface for authentication purposes. When you try to log on to this Web page, you enter an invalid user name or password. In response, you receive an "HTTP Error 500" error message. In this scenario, the following error message is standard:
The Web page requires the user to enter a valid password and user name.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) server does not handle the error code correctly.

Resolution

Service pack information
