Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are using a computer that has a 64-bit chip set.
  • The computer is running a 32-bit version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1).
  • The computer has less than 4 gigabytes (GB) of random access memory (RAM) installed.
  • You use the Hot Add Memory feature to add RAM to the computer.
  • After you add RAM, the total amount of RAM is equal to or larger than 4 GB.
In this scenario, the computer stops responding. For example, when you use the Hot Add Memory feature to add 2 GB of RAM to a computer that already has 2 GB of RAM, the computer stops responding. Additionally, you may receive a "Stop 0x0000007F" error message in this scenario.
