You may receive a Stop error message when you use a scanner in Windows Server 2003 or in Windows XP x64 Edition

Symptoms

When you use a computer that is running any one of the operating systems that are listed in the "Applies to" section, and you try to use a scanner to scan a document, you may receive the following Stop error message:
STOP 0x000000C4 DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION


Note This problem is known to occur with HP Scanning Software and with HP ScanJet scanner models 4070, 3970, 3800, and 4370. However, the problem may also occur with other software and with other scanner models.

This problem occurs because of a code error in the Usbscan.sys file.

Resolution

Service pack information
