Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • Your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 organization contains a server that is running Novell GroupWise.
  • The GroupWise server uses Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) codepage 437.
  • You send an e-mail message from the GroupWise server. The Subject box of the e-mail message contains a character that has an umlaut. For example, the Subject box contains the word "ffnen".
In this scenario, when the recipient receives the e-mail message, the character that has the umlaut appears as jumbled code.
