You cannot specify a path statement that ends in a wildcard character when you create a Web publishing rule in ISA Server 2004

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you create a Web publishing rule in Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004, you cannot specify a path statement if the following conditions are true:
  • The path statement ends in a wildcard character (*).
  • There is no forward slash before the wildcard character.
For example, the following path statement does not work:
folder*

Cause

This problem occurs because ISA Server 2004 lets you use a wildcard character in a path statement only if the wildcard character is preceded by a forward slash. For example, the following path statement works in ISA Server 2004:
folder/*
This path statement refers to the folder and to all the subfolders and files that this folder contains.
