Symptoms

After you upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1), the Server Balanced Processor Power and Performance power scheme is not available in the Power Options tool in Control Panel. Instead, the Minimal Power Management power scheme is available.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Server Balanced Processor Power and Performance power scheme is only available if you install a slipstream version of Windows Server 2003 SP1.

Workaround

To work around this issue, use the Minimal Power Management power scheme instead of the Server Balanced Processor Power and Performance power scheme. These two power schemes provide the same functionality. These two power schemes both support the adaptive processor throttling policy that is used by certain processors.
