Cause

This issue may occur if you did not reinstall Exchange 2003 SP1 after you ran the setup /disasterrecovery command. You may incorrectly assume that Exchange 2003 SP1 is already installed. When you view the Exchange 2003 version number in Exchange System Manager after you run the setup /disasterrecovery command, the following version number appears:
Version 6.5 (Build 7210.0:Service Pack 1)
The Exchange 2003 version number is stored in the SerialNumber attribute of the Exchange object in Active Directory directory servicese. When you use the setup /disasterrecovery command to recover an Exchange 2003 computer, the SerialNumber attribute is not updated.
