You receive a "Data error" error message when you try to access the contents of a mounted disk image in Windows Server 2003 SP1

Symptoms

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), you use the Microsoft Automated Deployment Services (ADS) Imgmount command-line tool. You run the imgmount command without the /w option to mount a disk image in read-only mode. When you try to access the contents of the mounted disk image, you receive the following error message:
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

Workaround

To work around this problem, use the imgmount command together with the /w option to mount a copy of the disk image in read/write mode. For example, use a command that is similar to the following:
imgmount /m /w YourImageFile.img
