An address that is longer than 259 characters is truncated to 259 characters when you drag it from the address bar in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 to a new location

Symptoms

When you drag a long address from the Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 address bar to a new location, the address is truncated to 259 characters in the new location. This issue occurs when the address contains 260 or more characters.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a limitation in the drag-and-drop feature of the Internet Explorer address bar.

Workaround

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Copy and paste the address

To work around this issue, copy the address, and then paste the address to the new location:
  1. In Internet Explorer, click to position the pointer at the start of the address you want to copy.
  2. Press SHIFT+END.
  3. Press CTRL+C.
  4. Click in the new location, and then press CRTL+V.

Method 2: Drag the Internet Explorer icon from the title bar

To work around this issue, drag the Internet Explorer icon from the title bar at the top of the browser window to the new location.

Method 3: Create a Favorite and drag it to the new location

To work around this issue, create a Favorite. Then, drag the Favorite to the new location:
  1. In Internet Explorer, click Favorites, and then click Add to Favorites.
  2. In the Name box, type a name, and then click OK.
  3. Click Favorites, and then drag the favorite to the new location.
