When you change group scopes by using a combination of the Dsquery command the Dsmod command, all the group types are changed to either distribution groups or security groups on a Windows Server 2003-based computer

Symptoms

You change group scopes by using the following combination of the Dsquery command and the Dsmod command:
Dsquery group ObjectUnitName | Dsmod group -scope g
All the group types are changed to either distribution groups or security groups.

Also, you change group types by using the following combination of the Dsquery command and the Dsmod command:
Dsquery group ObjectUnitName | Dsmod group -secgrp yes
The group scope of the first group is copied to all the other groups that the Dsquery command returns.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Dsmod command only reads the current flags for the first group that the Dsquery command finds. Then, the Dsmod command copies the first group type or the first group scope to all subsequent groups.

Resolution

Service pack information
