You receive an "Another version of this product is installed" error message when you try to help protect or to open an IRM document in an Office 2003 program

Symptoms

When you try to help protect a Microsoft Office 2003 document by using Information Rights Management (IRM) or to open an Office 2003 document that is protected with IRM, you receive the following error message:
Another version of this product is installed. To configure, or uninstall please use Add\Remove Programs.

Cause

This problem may occur when you run Office 2003 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008.

Resolution

This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you installed the latest Office 2003 service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix.

Service pack information

This problem is corrected in Office 2003 Service Pack 2.
