The Firewall service may not start in Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 after you select a certificate for a, SSL listener

Symptoms

In Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004, the Firewall service may not start. This symptom occurs after you select a certificate for use with a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Web Listener. After you select a certificate, ISA 2004 tries to stamp the Security Descriptor of the certificate with permissions for the Network Service account. This symptom occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You are using a third-party Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP).
  • The CSP does not support the use of a Security Descriptor for the certificate's associated private key.
Note The Firewall service starts correctly if you use the Microsoft CSPs.

Note These event IDs may be related to other startup problems. However, only "FilterInit failed with code 0x80070519" in event 14060 is specific to the problem that is described in this article.
