FIX: 32-bit versions of performance monitoring software may not be able to access Windows Media Services 9 Series performance counters on computers that are running Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions

If Microsoft Windows Media Services 9 Series is installed on computers that are running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions, 32-bit versions of performance monitoring software may not be able to access the Windows Media Services performance counters. For example, the Windows Media Services Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) may not be able to access the performance counters.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

To work around this behavior, make sure that all performance counters are available to the performance monitoring software. To do this, you must copy files from a Windows Media Services-based server that is running on a 32-bit version of Windows Server 2003 to the Windows Media Services-based server that is running a Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition. The following table lists the files that you must copy.Note Do not register the 32-bit versions of these DLLs.

Your hardware manufacturer provides support because a Windows x64 edition was included with your hardware. Your hardware manufacturer might have customized the Windows x64 edition installation with unique components. Unique components might include specific device drivers or might include optional settings to maximize the performance of the hardware. Microsoft will provide reasonable-effort assistance if you need technical help with your Windows x64 edition. However, you might have to contact your manufacturer directly. Your manufacturer is best qualified to support the software that your manufacturer installed on the hardware.
