The values that are returned in the TotalBytesFiltered and TotalBytesCaptured fields are much smaller than expected when a program calls the IStats::GetTotalStatistics method in Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, you run a program that uses Network Monitor APIs to capture the network throughput of a TCP/IP session. When the program calls the IStats::GetTotalStatistics method to obtain the statistics of the current network throughput capture, the values that are returned in the TotalBytesFiltered and TotalBytesCaptured fields are much smaller than expected. The returned values are much smaller than the actual bytes that are filtered and captured when the program filters an IP address pair.

More information

The IStats interface is part of the Network Monitor APIs. This interface provides the methods that you use to do the following tasks:
  • Connect a Network Packet Provider (NPP) to the network
  • Capture network traffic
  • Retrieve statistics
  • Disconnect the NPP from the network
The IStats interface generates statistics without frames.

The IStats::GetTotalStatistics method is an IStats interface that retrieves the total statistics for the current network throughput capture. The IStats::GetTotalStatistics method has an OUT pointer to a STATISTICS structure that provides the total statistics. TotalBytesFiltered and TotalBytesCaptured are fields of this STATISTICS structure.

Technical support for Windows x64 editions

Your hardware manufacturer provides technical support and assistance for Microsoft Windows x64 editions. Your hardware manufacturer provides support because a Windows x64 edition was included with your hardware. Your hardware manufacturer might have customized the Windows x64 edition installation with unique components. Unique components might include specific device drivers or might include optional settings to maximize the performance of the hardware. Microsoft will provide reasonable-effort assistance if you need technical help with your Windows x64 edition. However, you might have to contact your manufacturer directly. Your manufacturer is best qualified to support the software that your manufacturer installed on the hardware.
