View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

After you install Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 9 Series on a server that is running Microsoft Windows Media Services 9 Series and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1), some new features of Windows Media Services 9 Series may not be available. These features are available in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). They can also be accessed by using the server object model.

Cause

The Windows Media Encoder 9 Series replaces the type library on the server with an older version of the type library.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
1.Copy the Wmsservertypelib.dll file from a Windows Server 2003 SP1-based computer where the new features are available to the computer where the new features are not available.
2.On the computer where the new features are not available, replace the existing Wmsservertypelib.dll file.

This file is located in the %windir%\system32\windows media\server directory.
3.At a command prompt, type the following command:
regsvr32 "%windir%\system32\windows media\server\wmsservertypelib.dll"
Alternatively, if you know that you will install Windows Media Encoder 9 Series and Windows Media Services on a Windows Server 2003-based computer, we recommend that you install Windows Media Encoder 9 Series before you install Windows Server 2003 SP1.

You can also reinstall Windows Server 2003 SP1 after you install Windows Media Encoder 9 Series. However, if you do this, you must restart the computer after you install Windows Server 2003 SP1.
