An MMC snap-in for a program is not available in the Add Standalone Snap-in dialog box in an x64-based version of Windows

Symptoms

You install a program that includes a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in on a computer that is running an x64-based version of Microsoft Windows. In this scenario, the MMC snap-in is not available in the Add Standalone Snap-in dialog box.

Cause

This problem occurs when you install a 32-bit version of a program that includes a 32-bit MMC snap-in. For example, when you install the 32-bit version of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 on your computer, the 32-bit SQL Server Enterprise Manager snap-in is not available.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, run the program by using the /32 option. To do this, click Start, click Run, type mmc /32, and then click OK.
