Error message when you start the MOM 2005 Operator console on a computer that is running MOM 2005 and Windows Server 2003: "Application has generated an exception that cannot be handled"

Symptoms

When you try to start the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Operator console, you receive an exception error message that resembles the following:
MOM.UI.OPSCONSOLE.EXE.EXE - Common language runtime debugging services
Application has generated an exception that cannot be handled
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You start the MOM 2005 Operator console on the computer that is running MOM 2005.
  • MOM 2005 is running on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
