The NoDriveTypeAutoRun subkey value is reset to the original default value on a Windows Server 2003-based computer, on a Windows XP-based computer, or on a Windows 2000-based computer

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You manually change the NoDriveTypeAutoRun subkey value by using Registry Editor.
  • You add the computer to an Active Directory domain.
The NoDriveTypeAutoRun subkey value is reset to one of the following original default values:

Operating systemDefault value
Microsoft Windows Server 20030x95
Microsoft Windows XP0x91
Microsoft Windows 20000x95

Workaround

To work around this issue, cancel the Turn off Autoplay policy setting selection in the Active Directory domain environment as follows:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
  2. Expand User Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, and then expand System.
  3. Double-click the Turn off Autoplay policy.
  4. Select Disabled, click Apply, and then click OK.

    Note In Windows 2000, the policy setting is named Disable Autoplay.

When the NoDriveTypeAutoRun subkey value is reset to one of the original default values, the computer that you added to an Active Directory domain can use functions that the Turn off Autoplay policy setting supports.

The Turn off Autoplay policy setting is based on the following registry key and value pair.
